Hearts of Gold Gala

I wanted to share with you guys something that is really special to me, and that is Hearts of Gold, a New York City based charity that helps homeless mothers and their children learn the skills and find the resources to become self-sustaining. I don’t know if I have shared this, but I am currently getting my Master’s Degree in Social Work from NYU, so I feel really passionately about this type of work. Particularly because not only does Hearts of Gold help mothers to get out of impossible situations, but they give them the tools to maintain their new lives.

The event also appealed to the fashion lover in me. The founder of Hearts of Gold is former model Deborah Koenigsberger owns the NYC boutique Noir et Blanc. She threw such a beautiful gala this year, and it was truly inspiring in every sense of the word. Mixing the world of fashion with her philanthropic nature, she manages to do so much for so many people.

The event was themed “Fiesta Latina” and featured delicious Mexican and Spanish themed appetizers and dinners, as well as super yummy desserts. (Side note- I ate at least 6 churros, and am holding a macaroon in my hand in the above photo, which looks totally awkward but now ya know.) There was also a silent auction with tons of gorgeous jewelry and accessories, which was hosted by Soledad O’Brien of CNN, supermodel Emme and Diana Ross’ daughter Rhonda Ross. The event featured a fashion show with looks by Tracy Reese, Hanky Panky, White and Warren, Zapa, Iris, and Transit. The highlight of the fashion show was accessory designer Theresa Dapra‘s custom headpieces inspired by Carmen Miranda, which were on auction at the event. I had the pleasure of interviewing Theresa, who has designed accessories for Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Robyn among other celebrities. You can read that interview here. Also stay tuned because we are working on a little collaboration, and I know you are going to want to see her exciting pieces right here on the blog in a few weeks!

All in all I had the best time at the event with my friend Kortni! But I felt that it was important to share with you guys a little about the organization, because what they do is really so important. Hearts of Gold has helped over 12,000 mothers and children in NYC since its creation in 1996. I  encourage you to check out their website and help if you can!

I told you, I ate too many churros…they were so good!

By the way, this dress was a boutique find from Winter Park, Florida. The most similar one I could find is really pretty by The Limited and on sale for $60 here!
