Maybe since I am Floridian my tolerance for the cold is not as great as some other New Yorkers, but (and it is style blogger sin to say this, I think) when it drops below 30F my concern for looking fashionable flies out the window and into the freezing wind. Puffer coats…they are just not all that cute, to say the least. But when you are walking seemingly endless miles around Manhattan in frigid weather, they are sort of a necessity. Full disclosure- I moved here last February, so I haven’t even experienced an entire winter season yet. However, what I can tell you is that I was super cold last year; and my ugly white North Face was thrown out on April 1. Guys, it was so ugly, and also totally disgusting and covered in questionable “city stains.” (City stains are marks that wind up on your clothing after a crowded subway ride, a brush against a building in the East Village, or an unfortunate encounter with a pigeon at the park. You don’t know exactly where they came from…and you don’t really want to.)
Personally, I feel that a coat seems like the kind of item that you may wanna spend some extra money on. It has to keep you warm and last the winter months after all. As awesome as layering is–for fashion or for warmth–a coat is going to be the one thing you wear every day for 2-3 months out of the year, so you should get a good one. Below I have compiled the cutest warm coats that I could find. I’ve also considered price, and all of them are under $250. (Some much much less!) Stay warm!
I love the color. The sheen is a little snazzy, a little different, and a little more high-fashion. Plus a furry collar is always a plus in my book!
The Importance of Being Forest-$152.99
This beauty rated a 4 out of 5 on Modcloth’s Winter Warmth Scale. This is a great option for staying warm on date night! I love the fit and flare style!
Roam is Where the Heart Is– $229.99
Another stuh-uh-nning date night (girl’s night/night on the town/nights you want to look like a snowflake) option. Its another 4 on the warmth scale. I love the color, the hood, the detail on the chest….I just love this one in particular.
MICHAEL Michael Kors Coat, Hooded Faux-Fur-Collar Quilted Puffer– On Sale for $139.99!
For the practical, but still fashionable ladies is this cozy espresso Michael Kors look. My winter coat is also by Michael Kors and looks similar except in GUNMETAL, because that’s a fun color to wear/say. (I couldn’t find it online any more, my apologies.) It perfect for everyday wear; and you can’t see the sometimes questionable city stains that we discussed earlier.
DKNY Coat, Faux-Fur-Trim Hooded Belted Puffer– Anther steal at $139.99!
For the glamazons out there, this DKNY metallic waist-cincher is sure to keep you warm! The buckle detailing and furry hood are always a nice touch!
Kenneth Cole Reaction Coat, Hooded Faux-Fur-Trim Quilted Puffer– Woah, woah, woah $99.99!!! (Down from $245!)
Available in four colors (my fave is the “mink”) this chevron quilted beauty is the perfect winter staple. At a price you really (really, really) cannot beat, I suggest you grab one before they sell out!
Well that’s it ladies, my top coat picks for the approaching winter season! Stay cute, not cold and don’t forget to layer!
